An Axiomatic Model of Non-Bayesian Updating

چکیده

This paper models an agent in a three-period setting who does not update according to Bayes’Rule, and who is self-aware and anticipates her updating behavior when formulating plans. The agent is rational in the sense that her dynamic behavior is derived from a stable preference order on a domain of state-contingent menus of acts. A representation theorem generalizes (the dynamic version of) Anscombe-Aumann’s theorem so that both the prior and the way in which it is updated are subjective. The model can generate updating biases analogous to those observed by psychologists. Department of Economics, University of Rochester, Rochester, NY 14627, lepn@ troi.cc.rochester.edu. Non-bayesian Updating: a Theoretical Framework

This paper models an agent in a multi-period setting who does not update according to Bayes’ Rule, and who is self-aware and anticipates her updating behavior when formulating plans. Choice-theoretic axiomatic foundations are provided. Then the model is specialized axiomatically to capture updating biases that re‡ect excessive weight given to (i) prior beliefs, or alternatively, (ii) the realiz...

Foundations of Bayesian theory

This paper states necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence, uniqueness, and updating according to Bayes’ rule, of subjective probabilities representing individuals’ beliefs. The approach is preference based, and the result is an axiomatic subjective expected utility model of Bayesian decision making under uncertainty with statedependent preferences. The theory provides foundations ...

A theory of Bayesian decision making with action-dependent subjective probabilities

This paper presents a complete, choice-based, axiomatic Bayesian decision theory. It introduces a new choice set consisting of information-contingent plans for choosing actions and bets and subjective expected utility model with effectdependent utility functions and action-dependent subjective probabilities which, in conjunction with the updating of the probabilities using Bayes’ rule, gives ri...

Comparison of Estimates Using Record Statistics from Lomax Model: Bayesian and Non Bayesian Approaches

This paper address the problem of Bayesian estimation of the parameters, reliability and hazard function in the context of record statistics values from the two-parameter Lomax distribution. The ML and the Bayes estimates based on records are derived for the two unknown parameters and the survival time parameters, reliability and hazard functions. The Bayes estimates are obtained based on conju...

Bayesian Analysis of Censored Spatial Data Based on a Non-Gaussian Model

Abstract: In this paper, we suggest using a skew Gaussian-log Gaussian model for the analysis of spatial censored data from a Bayesian point of view. This approach furnishes an extension of the skew log Gaussian model to accommodate to both skewness and heavy tails and also censored data. All of the characteristics mentioned are three pervasive features of spatial data. We utilize data augme...
